One of the nature conservation areas we’re most passionate about is temperate rainforest restoration and last week we were thrilled to visit one of the best local examples – Wistman’s Wood on Dartmoor.
We also met the guru Guy Shrubsole who told us about the importance of this wood and the efforts being taken by the Duchy of Cornwall to double its size using acorns harvested from the site two years ago. They are also doing the same with another site close by, Black-a-Tor Copse.
We’re so lucky in the South-West as we also have other precious fragments being conserved and enlarged. To name a few, this includes the beautiful Cabilla on Bodmin Moor, the Cornwall Wildlife Trust West Muchlarnick Farm and the Devon Wildlife Trust Bowden Pillars Farm.
